BetterSend vs QuillBot
BetterSend vs QuillBot for work messages
Pick QuillBot if you paraphrase essays, documents and emails and want a grammar checker, AI detector and humanizer in one subscription. Pick BetterSend if your job is short work messages written in a second language: write the draft in your language, choose one of 13 tones, and get natural English back inside Slack, Teams, WhatsApp or Gmail. QuillBot rewrites text in the language you wrote it; BetterSend turns it into the English message you meant to send.
By Rubens Jr, Founder of BetterSend
QuillBot started as a paraphrasing tool and is now a broad writing suite: paraphraser, grammar checker, humanizer, AI detector, summarizer and translator. Its Chrome extension works in any text field you highlight, its listing says it supports writing in English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Dutch, and it also has Windows and Mac apps. It is popular with students and anyone who rewrites longer text.
BetterSend is narrower. It adds Improve, Translate and Explain buttons inside twelve work platforms and a desktop app for the native Slack, WhatsApp, Microsoft Teams and Discord apps. Improve takes a draft in any language and returns English in the tone you picked; Translate and Explain act on messages you receive. It does not paraphrase documents or detect AI text.
BetterSend is for
Non-native English speakers who write short work messages in chat and want a finished message in a specific tone, from a draft in their own language.
QuillBot is for
Students and writers who paraphrase longer text, want a grammar checker and AI detector, and mostly write in the language they want to end up with.
| Feature | BetterSend | QuillBot |
|---|---|---|
| Where it works | Buttons inside Slack, WhatsApp Web, LinkedIn, Gmail, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jira, Telegram and Discord, plus a desktop app for the native Slack, WhatsApp, Teams and Discord apps on macOS and Windows. | A Chrome extension that works in text fields across the web (highlight text or open its toolbar), plus Windows and Mac apps that QuillBot says work in apps like Word, Slack and Outlook or Mail. |
| Rewriting a whole message | Improve rewrites the whole draft in one of 13 tones, for example Professional, Diplomatic, Concise, Confident and Native Speaker. | The paraphraser rewrites selected text in modes. The extension listing says the free plan has limited paraphrasing and Premium unlocks expanded modes for tone and style, plus custom modes. |
| Writing in another language | Write the draft in any language, for example Portuguese, and get natural English back in the chosen tone, in one action. | QuillBot paraphrases and corrects in the language you wrote (English, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese and Dutch per its listing). Getting English from a Portuguese draft means translating first and then paraphrasing. |
| Messages you receive | Translate button under each received message, into any of 44 languages, and Explain for jargon and idioms. | A translator is part of the extension and the website; select the text and translate it. There is no explain action for a message. |
| Beyond chat | No document tools, no AI detector, no citation generator. | Grammar checker, humanizer, AI detector, summarizer, citation generator and AI writer. This is where QuillBot is clearly ahead. |
| Free plan | Free plan: 50 actions per month and 3 tones (Professional, Friendly, Grammar fix). | Free plan with the grammar checker and limited paraphrasing; the translator, citation generator and AI detector are free on the website, per QuillBot's own FAQ. |
| Price | Pro is US$ 4.99 per month or US$ 39.99 per year as of October 2026, with all 13 tones and unlimited actions. In Brazil, Pix: 6 months for the price of 4 (R$ 99.60). | Premium is US$ 19.95 per month, or US$ 99.95 per year (about US$ 8.33 per month), per QuillBot's pricing FAQ as of October 2026. Check its upgrade page for your region. |
| Privacy | Message text is never stored; only metadata such as the action type and token count. Nothing is sent on your behalf; you always choose what to send. | The extension listing says QuillBot processes only what is needed to give suggestions and does not sell your data. Read its privacy policy for what is stored. |
Verdict
For paraphrasing essays and documents, checking grammar and detecting AI text, QuillBot does far more and is the better pick. For the specific job of sending a work message in a second language, BetterSend is the closer fit: one click inside the chat, tone included, from a draft in your own language, and it costs less than QuillBot Premium.
