BetterSend vs ChatGPT
ChatGPT vs BetterSend for writing work messages
ChatGPT is the better pick for open-ended work: a long draft, a document, anything that needs a conversation. BetterSend is the better pick for the thirty short messages you send a day: it lives inside Slack, Teams, Gmail, WhatsApp Web and eight more, you press Improve, pick a tone, and the rewritten message is ready to paste. No tab switching, no prompt to write, no pasting the thread into another app.

ChatGPT will happily rewrite a Slack message. The cost is the workflow: copy the draft, switch tabs, write "make this more polite, in English", copy the result, switch back, paste. Multiply by every message in a day. The free plan has usage limits and Plus costs US$ 20 per month as of October 2026.
BetterSend is that one prompt turned into a button. Its Chrome extension adds Improve, Translate and Explain inside twelve work platforms, and its desktop app works inside the native Slack, WhatsApp, Teams and Discord apps. The tone picker replaces the prompt; the output language is a setting; the result lands beside your draft.
BetterSend is for
People who send many short work messages, often in a second language, and want a consistent tone with no prompting.
ChatGPT is for
Anyone with a longer or less predictable task: a whole document, a reply that needs back-and-forth, research, or code.
| Feature | BetterSend | ChatGPT |
|---|---|---|
| Where it works | Buttons inside Slack, WhatsApp Web, LinkedIn, Gmail, Outlook, Microsoft Teams, GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Jira, Telegram and Discord, plus a desktop app for the native Slack, WhatsApp, Teams and Discord apps. | Its own website and apps. Rewriting a Slack message means copying it to ChatGPT and back, unless your workspace has a separate integration. |
| Steps to rewrite one message | Press Improve, pick a tone, use the result. Three clicks in the composer. | Copy the draft, switch to ChatGPT, write a prompt, copy the answer, switch back, paste. |
| Tone | 13 preset tones such as Professional, Friendly, Confident, Diplomatic, Persuasive, Concise, Empathetic and Native Speaker. The preset keeps results consistent from one message to the next. | Any tone you can describe in a prompt. More flexible, less consistent: each prompt is written fresh unless you save custom instructions. |
| Writing in another language | Write in any language; choose the output language per message. One action. | Works if you say so in the prompt ("rewrite this in English, professional tone"). |
| Understanding received messages | Translate (44 languages) and Explain buttons under each received message. | Paste the message and ask. Works, but takes the same tab switch. |
| Longer tasks | Not built for it. No document editing, no conversation, no follow-up questions. | Drafts, documents, summaries, research, code. This is where ChatGPT is clearly ahead. |
| Free plan | Free plan: 50 actions per month and 3 tones (Professional, Friendly, Grammar fix). | Free plan with usage limits on the newer models and features; see OpenAI's plan pages for the current limits. |
| Price | Pro is US$ 4.99 per month or US$ 39.99 per year as of October 2026, with all 13 tones and unlimited actions. In Brazil, Pix: 6 months for the price of 4 (R$ 99.60). | ChatGPT Go at US$ 8 per month, Plus at US$ 20 per month, Pro at US$ 200 per month, as of October 2026, per OpenAI's announcement and help center. |
| Privacy | Message text is never stored; only metadata such as the action type and token count. Nothing is sent on your behalf; you always choose what to send. | Conversations are stored in your chat history by default and may be used to improve models unless you turn that off in settings. Read OpenAI's data controls before pasting internal messages. |
Verdict
If you already pay for ChatGPT and send a handful of messages a day, keep using it; it does the rewrite fine and does much more besides. If you send many short messages and the tab switch is the thing that stops you from rewriting them, BetterSend removes it, keeps the tone consistent, and its Pro plan costs a quarter of ChatGPT Plus. Plenty of people use both: ChatGPT for the document, BetterSend for the message about it.
Common questions
Is BetterSend just ChatGPT with a button?
It uses a language model with fixed, tested prompts for each tone, and it runs inside the chat app. The point is the placement and the consistency, not the model.
Does BetterSend keep my messages like ChatGPT keeps chat history?
No. BetterSend never stores message text, only metadata such as the action type and token count. ChatGPT stores conversations in your history by default.
Can I ask BetterSend follow-up questions?
No. Each action is one rewrite, translation or explanation. For a back-and-forth, ChatGPT is the right tool.
