DeepL alternative that writes and translates in one step
DeepL is the translator to keep for a document or a page: its quality is the reason people know the name. For a work message it asks for two steps and two products: translate the draft with the Translator, then fix the style with DeepL Write, a separate paid add-on. What changed at DeepL
- Translator and Write are sold apart: DeepL Pro Individual costs 7.49 euros a month billed annually in the EU, and DeepL Write Pro is an add-on at 6.99 euros a month on top of it, as of October 2026.
- DeepL's privacy policy says texts submitted to the free Translator and Write, and corrections you make to its suggestions, are kept for a limited time to train its models. Only Pro texts are excluded.
- The free browser extension translates a selection of up to 1,500 characters without an account and 5,000 with a free account; Write improves up to 2,000 characters at a time (extension version 1.104.2, read October 2026).
- DeepL Write offers eight styles and tones: simple, business, academic and casual, and enthusiastic, friendly, confident and diplomatic. BetterSend has 13.
- The extension has dedicated integrations for Gmail, Google Docs, Outlook, WhatsApp Web, LinkedIn, X and Zendesk. No Slack or Microsoft Teams integration was found in its code.

Common questions
Does BetterSend translate as well as DeepL?
For a work message, the goal is different: BetterSend does not translate word for word, it rewrites the draft as a native speaker would send it, in the tone you chose. For a contract or a long document, use DeepL.
Does DeepL use my text to train its models?
Its privacy policy says texts from the free Translator and Write are kept for a limited time to train and improve its models, and that Pro texts are not. BetterSend never stores message text, on any plan.
Can I write in Portuguese and send in English with BetterSend?
Yes. Write the draft in your language, pick a tone, press Improve: the result is the message in English, or in any of 44 languages. Translate and Explain work on the messages you receive.
How much does BetterSend cost compared with DeepL?
