Alternative to Wordtune
Wordtune alternative for non-native English speakers
Wordtune rewrites selected text, always in English, and has shown few signs of new work since 2024: no blog post since July 2024, a Firefox add-on last updated in April 2025 and a Mac beta that was discontinued. If you used it to polish work messages written in a second language, BetterSend starts from the language you think in, offers 13 tones instead of Formal and Casual, translates and explains the messages you receive, and works inside the Slack, Teams, WhatsApp and Discord apps on Mac and Windows. Wordtune is still the better pick for summarizing articles and for expanding a draft with examples.

What changed at Wordtune
- The Wordtune blog has had no new post since July 2024, and 327 of the 347 URLs in its sitemap carry a date from March 2025.
- Its limited Mac beta was discontinued, per its help center in December 2025. There is no Windows or Android app.
- Its Firefox add-on was last updated in April 2025. The Chrome extension had an update in April 2026.
- On the Chrome Web Store it is rated 3.3 out of 5 from 2,400 reviews. Recent reviews complain about having to sign in again every two or three weeks.
- It accepts drafts in 10 languages but always answers in English.
What BetterSend gives you for free
- 50 AI actions a month, every month, with no trial that runs out and no card. Each Improve, Translate or Explain is one action.
- 3 tones (Professional, Friendly, Fix Grammar) and 10 free uses of the Pro tones, to try the others on real messages.
- Write in Portuguese, Spanish or any other language and get natural English back, in one click.
- Translate and Explain on the messages you receive, in 44 languages.
- The desktop app for Mac and Windows puts the same button in the Slack, Teams, WhatsApp and Discord apps, on the same free plan.
- Your message is sent only when you click, never stored and never used to train models.
Where Wordtune is still the better choice
- Its free plan gives 10 rewrites a day, more than the 50 actions a month of BetterSend for someone who rewrites all day.
- Spices add an example, a counterargument or a fact to your draft, and Shorten and Expand are one click each.
- It summarizes articles, PDFs and videos, which BetterSend does not do.
- It has an iPhone keyboard and an Edge add-on. BetterSend has no mobile app and is on the Chrome Web Store only.
Switch in three steps
- 1
Add BetterSend to Chrome and sign in with your email. The free plan needs no card.
- 2
Open Slack, Teams, WhatsApp Web or Gmail, write the draft in your own language and press Improve.
- 3
For the apps installed on your computer, get BetterSend for Mac or Windows.
