How to translate Discord messages and reply in another language
Double-click a message in the Discord app, or press Translate under it in Discord on the web, and BetterSend shows it in your language, in any of 44. Explain says what slang or a short reply means. To answer, write in your own language, press Improve, pick a tone and replace your draft with natural English. No bot joins the server and nobody has to ask the admin.

In the Discord app on Mac or Windows
For the Discord desktop app, where most communities are open all day.
- 1
Download the BetterSend desktop app for macOS or Windows and sign in with your email and the code we send you.
- 2
On a Mac, allow Accessibility access when the app asks. It is how BetterSend reads Discord. Windows needs no permission.
- 3
Double-click a message in a channel or a DM and choose Translate to read it in your language, or Explain to understand the slang.
- 4
To reply, write in your own language, click the BetterSend icon in the message box, pick a tone and replace the draft with the English result.
In Discord on the web, with the Chrome extension
For Discord in the browser, on any computer that runs Chrome.
- 1
Add BetterSend to Chrome and sign in with your email. The free plan needs no card.
- 2
Open Discord in Chrome. Each message gets Translate and Explain, and the message box gets an Improve button.
- 3
Press Translate under a message to read it in your language. The translation shows only on your screen.
- 4
Write your reply in your own language, press Improve, choose a tone and replace your draft with the result.
Why this works better than a translation bot
Your reply sounds like you, not like a bot
13 tones, from Casual for a gaming server to Professional for a client community. 3 are free, the rest come with Pro.
It explains the slang a translator misses
Discord is full of short replies, memes and in-jokes. Explain says what "GG", "no cap" or a one-word answer actually means, so you reply to what was meant.
Nothing to install on the server
A translation bot needs the server admin to add it, and it posts translations for everyone. BetterSend runs on your side only: no permission to ask, nothing posted in the channel.
Never stores your messages
Only the message you act on is sent, it is used to produce the result and then discarded. BetterSend does not store message text or use it to train models.
What it costs
Free plan: 50 AI actions a month and 3 tones, no card. Each improve, translate or explain is one action.
Pro: $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year, with unlimited actions and all 13 tones.
BetterSend and the alternatives
Each of these is the right choice for someone. This is where each one is better.
| Tool | What it does in Discord | Better when |
|---|---|---|
| Copying into a translator | You copy the message into Google Translate or DeepL, read the translation, write your reply there and paste a literal translation back into Discord. | You only need the gist of a message now and then. |
| A translation bot on the server | The server admin adds a bot that translates messages on its own, or when someone reacts with a flag, and posts the translation in the channel for everyone. | You run the server and want the whole community to read every channel in several languages. |
| Immersive Translate | A browser extension that translates the text of the page in Discord on the web, and translates what you typed when you press the space bar three times. | You use Discord in the browser and mostly read. |
| BetterSend | Translate and Explain on the messages you receive in 44 languages, and Improve on your reply in 13 tones from any language, in the Discord app on Mac and Windows and in Discord on the web. | You take part in servers in another language and want to read and answer without a bot or an admin. |
